Tournament History:
Every year Hospice of Helping Hands holds “The Scotty” Memorial Golf Tournament. Peter Morton was better known as “Scotty” because of his
Scottish brogue resulting from being born in Scotland. He loved golf and after being a Hospice of Helping Hands volunteer for many years, helped the organization start the annual golf benefit.
“He was one of those people that could walk into the room and a smile would light up on your face,” says Joann Salters,
retired Hospice of Helping Hands’ employee.
“He was a
humorous, outgoing, friendly person that was just fun to be around. He loved to share a good joke with
anyone, which made him a favorite with hospice
patients and families.” Scotty was a volunteer for Hospice of Helping Hands after his sister was diagnosed with cancer and became a hospice patient. After Scotty passed away, the
Hospice of Helping Hands volunteers decided to name the event in memory of him because of the spirit he had brought into the event and his many years of
dedicated volunteer service. |
